On Sunday 18 October 2009 at The Kennel Club Building, - Stoneleigh
- to be hosted by the Pet Care Trust and the British Dog Groomers’ Association (BDGA), the
British Dog Grooming Championships.
This is an annual event that sees top groomers from across the country compete to become ‘Groomer of the Year’.
The judges for the day are:

Miniature and Toy Poodles

Clipped and Scissored Terriers / Schnauzers
Mixed and Miscellaneous
Anita Bax
Hand strip – any type of dog other than Gundogs
Standard Poodles

Junior Competition
For the first time there is a new Junior Competition for 6-24 year olds, to be judged on their dexterity & artistic flair. Prize is £150
Two new cups are being introduced at this year’s Championship, commemorating two groomer members who sadly died last year. The Richard Barker Cup will be awarded to the Poodle class winner. The Colin Angus Cup will act as a congeniality award – going to the person the judges feel has cared for their dog the most of the day.
Free to all attending the event are grooming demonstrations by Groom Team England and special seminars.
Alongside the grooming action itself, there were grooming demonstrations on a variety of different breeds, and a series of seminars throughout the day, as well as a trade exhibition with the top names in grooming supplies making an appearance.

The BDGA is very excited to announce the two speakers who will be leading seminars at the Championship, providing an insight into what you can do for dogs as well as what they can do for you:
Claire Guest, Chief Executive of Cancer and Biodetection Dogs will explain the training that dogs in her care undergo, and what they are able to achieve
Darren Freer, expert dog behaviourist, will discuss the concept of dog whispering and how to see the world through a dog’s eyes.
